Soundcloud is a tool that allows uploading and sharing of audio content. The first 180 minutes are free. The site is convenient for uploading interview files and sharing them within a WordPress site.

An example of SoundCloud embedded in a WordPress site

To use SoundCloud, simply create a recording. In this example, a recording was created using Audacity, which can be downloaded to your computer for free.  SmartPhones and other recording devices can also be used.  When using Audacity, be sure to use the Export Function to download the Audacity File.

Many file types are supported in SoundCloud, including AIFF, WAVE (WAV), FLAC, ALAC, OGG, MP2, MP3, AAC, AMR, and WMA files.

To use SoundCloud:

1. Create an account using a Gmail/Facebook, or create an account using another email address.

2. Once logged in, click on Upload

3. In the next screen, click on Choose a file to upload.

4. Select the downloaded file to upload.

5.  Once the audio file has been uploaded, there are options for updating the image, adding tags, and filling in a description. If the image is not updated, SoundCloud will use the login image. Choose an image that best reflects the recording. In this test case, I used part of the SoundCloud logo. Then click SAVE.

6.  Click on the HOME icon in SoundCloud to return to the collection. Find the audio file to link in the WordPress site, and click on SHARE.

7.  Click on EMBED

8. In the Embed window, copy the code. The WordPress code is a link to instructions on how to embed in WordPress.

9. Go to the WordPress page where the code is to be embedded. Click on the Text tab in the page to insert the code.

10. Paste the code where you want the SoundCloud recording to appear.

11. Return to Visual if you prefer, update your page, and view it. The image below is the clip from SoundCloud:
